Treasure Coast Airports Are Expanding and New Flights Are Changing Travel Along Florida’s East Coast
New nonstop flights, airport expansion projects, and growing regional connectivity are making Florida’s Treasure Coast more accessible than ever before.

Traveling to Florida’s Treasure Coast Is Becoming Easier Than Ever
From Fort Pierce to Vero Beach, regional airports along Florida’s East Coast are evolving rapidly with expanded commercial flight options, long-term development projects, and improved accessibility to major cities across the Northeast and Southeast.
For residents, seasonal visitors, and travelers looking for a more convenient way to reach Florida’s East Coast, these changes are helping reshape how people experience the Treasure Coast. Whether it’s easier weekend travel, more convenient visits from family and friends, or avoiding the congestion of larger South Florida airports, expanded flight access is becoming another reason why the Treasure Coast continues attracting attention as one of Florida’s most desirable coastal regions.
Treasure Coast International Airport Expansion Continues in Fort Pierce
Treasure Coast International Airport in Fort Pierce continues making headlines as St. Lucie County advances long-term plans focused on airport expansion, aviation growth, and future commercial flight opportunities.
In October 2024, the airport officially received FAA Part 139 Certification, a major milestone that allows Treasure Coast International Airport to accommodate commercial airline operations. The certification followed extensive operational and safety upgrades required by the Federal Aviation Administration and represented an important step in the airport’s long-term vision for the region.
The airport currently supports corporate aviation, charter flights, aircraft maintenance, business travel, and flight training operations, while also positioning itself for future commercial airline service opportunities. Treasure Coast International Airport also offers more than 1,000 acres available for future aviation and commercial development, creating substantial long-term potential for Fort Pierce, Port St. Lucie, and the broader Treasure Coast region.

Regional Growth
More Connectivity Closer to Home
For many residents throughout Port St. Lucie, Stuart, Palm City, Fort Pierce, and Vero Beach, the continued expansion of regional airports represents growing convenience closer to home and another sign of the Treasure Coast’s ongoing evolution.
Vero Beach Regional Airport Adds New Nonstop Flights
JetBlue officially launched nonstop flights from Vero Beach Regional Airport to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport in December 2025, creating direct access between the Treasure Coast and two major Northeast cities with long-standing ties to Florida travel and seasonal living.
The new Vero Beach to JFK flights and Vero Beach to Boston flights offer travelers a more convenient alternative to driving south to larger airports while creating easier access for family visits, weekend travel, business trips, and seasonal stays along Florida’s East Coast.
American Airlines also offers flights between Vero Beach and Charlotte, further expanding travel connections between Florida’s East Coast and the Southeast.
The growing list of flights from Vero Beach reflects broader momentum happening across the Treasure Coast as infrastructure investment, tourism, and regional accessibility continue expanding together.
What Expanded Airport Access Means for the Treasure Coast Lifestyle
The Treasure Coast has long been known for its relaxed coastal atmosphere, waterfront lifestyle, boating, golf, fishing, beaches, and charming downtown districts. Now, improved airport access is adding another layer of convenience to life along Florida’s East Coast.
Easier Travel & Fewer Connections
Direct flights from major markets like New York, Boston, and Charlotte make it easier for friends and family to visit the Treasure Coast.
More Convenient Travel
Expanded regional airport access can help reduce the need to rely on larger, more congested airports farther south.
